We worked with Four Brothers on an addition to our semi-detached home. The project was finished in July 2025 and, a half-year in, the bottom lines are (1) we are very pleased with the living space that Four Brothers created, and (2) we would work with them again and highly recommend them to others. The project included a new sunroom; the addition of a primary bedroom on the second floor on top of an existing family room, with reconstruction of that lower room to support the additional load and create a new large skylight; and the conversion of an existing bedroom into an ensuite bathroom and hallway leading to the new bedroom. In addition, the project included installation of heat pumps for the whole house (in four zones), for both air conditioning and heating. We decided to go with a design-build firm because construction over an existing nearly 100-year-old house is complex, and we anticipated the likely need for design modifications during construction. One reason we went with the Four Brothers is that they were amenable to our staying in our home. We were glad we were onsite, able to answer questions and make decisions in real time. One unexpected thing (for us): Four Brothers has limited staff of its own. Most work was done through subcontractors, with Four Brothers overseeing the work as general contractor. The relationships they had with these high-quality subs were very solid – special kudos to those doing the structural work/exterior finishing, interior flooring, roofing, electrical, HVAC, bathroom tilework, and plumbing. In summary, here are our five stars for Four Brothers: They stayed within the contracted construction budget despite needed modifications. The project manager during the construction phase, Kent (one of the "four brothers") was a problem solver, communicating well and working with us to keep moving forward. Grant, who led design, was regularly involved during the construction phase, including incorporating unexpected changes to design. The administrative procedures were transparent, and online tools they provided helped us keep track of costs and schedule. They are nice people!
